The problem I want to work on is water conservation. The issue is faced by the large population of this country. Almost 30 million people have no access to clean water (Source: Dawn). This is alarming because the government is clearly neglecting this problem for a long time. I have researched this issue from numerous sources, such as newspapers, research papers, and interviews. This needs to be addressed at the earliest because Pakistan will be in a deep hole with huge water scarcity by 2025.

The idea came when in the Amal class; we were given to choose a Mega Project in our circles. Instructors have given us the guidelines for opting for a project that is the need of an hour. In my thought process, I was thinking, what could be the burning issues of our society. When sitting for brainstorming, issues were coming into my mind and suddenly, the issue of water scarcity jolted me.

The process follows the guidelines and then in our circle meeting; I pitched on this issue for a couple of minutes. My fellows thought, this can be an area to work. But, I have cleared them regarding the issue is huge and all we can do is to focus more on the conservation of water rather than increasing the supply of water sources. The freshwater sources reinforcement are in the government’s domain. We can start a campaign regarding the conservation of reservoirs, which we locally have in our country (Pakistan).

There are tremendous benefits regarding the resolution of this issue. Following are some of them;

  1. People of Pakistan have access to clean water. This is a bounty of Allah (SWT).
  2. The rise of hunger and poverty shall be combated when there is an ample amount of clean water available.
  3. We can magnify our export sectors because water is required for raw materials such as cotton that drive lucrative textile domains.
  4. We can also escalate our agricultural sector by sowing healthy seeds in plowing fields.
  5. It can be treated as the mark of peace and better cross-border relations.
